SaharaReporters has obtained the full list of the recent promotions done under the embattled Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which have been largely considered as controversial and have sparked ethnic tensions within the Nigerian police.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported last week that out of the 37 officers promoted under special consideration, 30 were allegedly of Yoruba origin fuelling growing concerns that IGP Egbetokun is presiding over a regionally biased or provincial police leadership.

The development has sparked discontent across various police commands, particularly among officers who believe they were overlooked for promotion despite being qualified, allegedly due to ethnic considerations.

On Monday evening, the police leadership through its spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, who is also a beneficiary of the jaundiced promotion, confirmed that the officers would be decorated in the office of the IGP Egbetokun.

The police authorities in their scheming withheld the names of the 37 officers - releasing only the names of a northerner and a South-Easterner.

SaharaReporters has now obtained the full list of the officers, confirming that the majority are Yoruba - an issue which has fractured the police force.
