Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Partys vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has stated that Peter Obi is welcome to contest for the partys presidential ticket in the 2027 election, regardless of whether he serves as Obis running mate.

Baba-Ahmed made this declaration on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Televisions The Morning Brief program.

He expressed profound respect for Peter Obi, stating, I welcome him openly. The Labour Party welcomes him to still come and retain the Labour Party ticket and contest in 2027 with or without me.

He further dismissed concerns that Peter Obis involvement in recent coalition talks spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) constituted anti-party activity, explaining it as an unfolding situation where various political parties, interest groups, and individuals are coming together.

Baba-Ahmed confirmed his own attendance at such coalition meetings and affirmed that Peter Obi is free to continue participating.

This is not an anti-party activity. It is an unfolding situation. The meaning of a coalition is that political parties, interest groups, and individuals are coming together. Its an unfolding situation.

I attended coalition meetings. Peter Obi is welcome to continue to attend those coalition meetings, Baba-Ahmed added.
