Business handshake

M Group has finalised its acquisition of digital infrastructure firm Telent, after receiving regulatory approval.

The deal – for an undisclosed value – brings together M Group’s infrastructure services operations with Telent’s technology and communications expertise, extending the buyer’s capabilities in critical national infrastructure delivery.

Both companies have longstanding relationships with clients in the UK transport and utilities sectors, including National Highways, Network Rail and Transport for London.

The acquisition of Telent was referred to the Competition and Markets Authority, and for national security and investment clearance.

M Group chief executive Andrew Findlay said the integration would focus on “business as usual”, with continuity in safety and client delivery priorities. He added that Telent’s workforce and market position would enhance M Group’s ability to provide essential services.

Telent’s chief executive Jo Gretton said the combined organisation would continue to support clients driving the digital transformation of public services.

M Group itself was acquired by Luxembourg-based private equity firm CVC Capital Partners last June.

CVC’s UK co-head Dominic Murphy said the acquisition would “transform M Group’s digital and technology capabilities”.

M Group’s most recent accounts for the year to 31 March 2024 showed revenue of £2.2bn and a pre-tax profit of £23.9m.

The firm was ranked as the 10th-largest UK contractor by turnover in the CN100 2024 table.
