Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore likes what hes seen from new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey both in his play-calling style and in his ability to bring together a staff and scheme that fits the Wolverines roster.

I think Chips just done a really good job of meshing the things that Ive wanted and that our staff has wanted and then what hes brought in, Moore said in a media appearance on Tuesday. Putting this product on the field thats going to showcase our players talents the best. Hes done a really good job. Managing the staff, allowing them to have ideas and put those ideas into the game plan. Just excited where the offense is heading from a holistic standpoint.
Moore credited Lindseys experience as a head coach and coordinator for creating trust early in their working relationship. That trust has allowed Lindsey to manage the offense while Moore remains actively involved.
Work ethic, determination, experience as head coach and coordinator it allows me to let him handle the offense, players, and coaches, while still having my input, Moore said. Hes receptive to my feedback. Great play caller. I run live situations where I just let them call plays and we play football. Watching his style, rhythm, and play-calling process has been really cool. Ive learned from him, too. Its been fun to have him around.
Lindseys style has already started shaping the Wolverines offensive identity in fall camp. Moore said the offense has shown explosiveness at all levels, something he expects to continue once the season starts.
I learned that were going to be explosive on both sides of the ball and come from different positions at different times, Moore said. Its going to be a fun team to watch.
The collaboration between Lindsey and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has also stood out to Moore. Offices in close proximity have fostered constant communication between the coordinators, and the head coach sees that as vital to the teams culture.
Wink and Chips offices are right by each other. Theyre always together, always talking, always bouncing ideas, Moore said. Players have to see that. If coaches dont like each other, players wont either itll divide the culture. Were blessed to not have that. The players love the coaches, the coaches love the players, the coaches love each other.
For Moore, the offensive scheme is only part of the picture. He said Lindseys personality and approach fit the culture hes building at Michigan.
Hes hilarious. His country twang is phenomenal. Outstanding football coach and human being, Moore said. Its been fun to have him around.
With the season opener just weeks away, Moore believes the offense is in a strong position not just because of the playbook, but because of the people behind it.
Were in a really good place, he said. Weve become a physical football team, a football team with great discipline, a great passion, and togetherness. Were really excited about where our team is at right now.
