The Oduduwa Integrity Association (OIA), in partnership with several Southern-based socio-cultural groups, has reaffirmed the historical and constitutional status of Lagos State as an indigenous Yoruba homeland. This resolution comes in the wake of ongoing national conversations surrounding ethnic identity, ownership, and political restructuring in Nigeria.

The Association asserts that, constitutionally, culturally, traditionally, and historically, Lagos is and remains a Yoruba territory. This position is not new, but it is being reiterated to address recent narratives that seem to question or undermine the ancestral and indigenous rights of the Yoruba people in Lagos.

According to the Association’s statement:

“Property ownership, business investments, or long-term residence in any part of Nigeria — including Lagos — does not equate to a traditional or indigenous claim to that land. Just as Yoruba people who live and trade in other regions, such as Anambra or Enugu, do not claim traditional ownership of those areas, we expect mutual understanding and respect for local customs and heritage from all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity.”

The Oduduwa Integrity Association also addressed recent political rhetoric from prominent figures including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Senator David Mark, urging them to focus national attention on rebuilding Nigeria’s economy, which was left in a fragile state after the previous administration under President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the President of OIA, Hon / Evang Banji Omotoso reiterated that “What Nigeria needs now is not political division or reckless agitation, but economic stability and responsible leadership. We urge all elder statesmen to prioritize unity and development over sentiment,” the statement said.

The Association further noted that discussions are ongoing among Yoruba leaders and partner organizations across Southern Nigeria. These deliberations will shape future positions and collective actions regarding national cohesion, governance, and the rights of indigenous ethnic nationalities.

The OIA emphasized its commitment to peaceful engagement, cultural preservation, and true federalism, while warning that any attempts to destabilize the fragile unity of the nation will be met with firm resistance — legally and constitutionally.

“If certain voices continue to push toward disintegration, the Yoruba nation is prepared to assert its right to self-determination, as guaranteed under international law,” the statement concluded.

Oduduwa Integrity Association reaffirms Lagos as an indigenous Yoruba Land, as enshrined in the constitution of nigeria, south west .Geo political zone, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and David Mark should stop dividing Nigeria. Yorubas will resist your selfish interest. “AWA LOKAN”.

For a better society
