Home India News Piyush Goyal: FTAs will bring duty-free access to new markets, two-way trade with duty cuts across sectors Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the government is trying to create a trading environment replete with agreements and arrangements to help two-way trade with mutual duty cuts across sectors. Assuring that duty cuts via two-way trade under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) will protect the country's interest as well as the interests of all states/Union Territories, he said that the aim would be to get newer products exported, add new exporters to the mix and break into new export markets. As India tries to access newer markets with duty-free access for its GI-tagged products, he said that the benefits of both countries will be balanced in an FTA.
Having signed FTAs with Australia, the UAE, and the UK, India is in talks for potential FTAs with the US, the EU, Oman, Peru, Chile, New Zealand, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Speaking at the FTII (Federation of Trade and Industry of India) Traders Conclave in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the Centre had come out with a package of 28,000 crores to boost tourism, manufacturing, and other industries in J&K, along with suggestions on promotion of renewable energy. Stating that tourism ministers from all states will have a conference in Srinagar shortly and will send across a message to the world that India won't be deterred by the dastardly attack on tourists and its sovereignty, he said that efforts are underway to increase the incomes of all sections of the society in J&K.
