NFT marketplace Magic Eden and Bitcoin layer 2 Spark have partnered to enhance DeFi on the Bitcoin blockchain and to improve access to Bitcoin-based apps. The partnership will be cemented during this year’s BitGala event on May 26 in Las Vegas, where the two “will host a joint event celebrating […] the vibrant Bitcoin community.” Magic Eden said the partnership is part of its mission to provide better developer tools, integration, and new opportunities to the Bitcoin community, marking its continued exploration of the Bitcoin world.
Magic Eden Is Making BTC Fast and Fun
According to Magic Eden CEO Jack Lu, the partnership will help the NFT marketplace to “lead the forefront of all Bitcoin DeFi to make BTC fast, fun, and for everyone.” Magic Eden noted that the partnership will help unlock intuitive cross-chain experiences and “Bitcoin-native composability” that will benefit developers, creators, and the community.
David Marcus, the CEO of Lightspark, Spark’s creator, noted that the layer two is built to handle the “next generation of financial applications.” Marcus expressed his excitement to see the NFT marketplace building the future of Bitcoin DeFi on the scaling layer.
Venturing Deeper Into Bitcoin and Blockchain
The partnership adds to Magic Eden’s efforts to venture deeper into the Bitcoin ecosystem. The NFT marketplace has, for example, launched a Bitcoin Ordinals exchange and launchpad to help Bitcoin users trade and create Bitcoin NFTs.
It also indicates Magic Eden’s shift from only focusing on NFTs to exploring the entire blockchain ecosystem. Last year, the platform said that its future vision hinges on “making crypto easier for everyone.” In April, it acquired crypto trading app Slingshot Finance to expand its services into crypto and memecoin trading.
With Magic Eden expanding its Bitcoin exploration mission, it’s to be seen whether it’ll consider launching its own Bitcoin scaling layer to better serve the Bitcoin community.
